⚽️ CAREER TIP: THE WINDOW DIDN'T CLOSE. IT JUST OPENED.
I can sense a feeling going around that the moment has passed for brands wanting to activate in soccer.
The World Cup is over, and a lot of people are treating that like a missed window.
But here’s what you need to know:
The World Cup wasn't the only door into soccer. Not even close.
It was an accelerator for all of them.
WHY THIS MATTERS
This summer’s tournament brought more people into soccer than at any point in American history.
Millions of casual viewers turned into curious fans. Curious fans turned into invested ones. And now all of those people are looking for ways to stay connected to the sport.
That's not the end of a wave.
That's the beginning of one.
The industry that supports this sport is about to spend the next several years figuring out how to keep, grow, and serve the new audience the World Cup just created.
And that reshapes what the sport needs from the people and organizations inside it.
WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED
The World Cup didn't just create a spike in attention.
It changed the baseline.
There are more soccer fans in this country now than there were six months ago
Those fans are spread across MLS, the NWSL, USL, Liga MX, various European leagues, and national teams
Every one of those organizations is now competing to hold the attention the tournament generated
And the brands that were on the sidelines are realizing the audience is bigger and more durable than they assumed
That shift creates a different industry than the one that existed before the tournament.
Bigger, more competitive, and more focused on turning attention into lasting connection.
THE QUESTION THAT SEPARATES THE WINNERS
As the industry moves into this next phase, the organizations and brands that win will be the ones who ask a better question.
Not "how do we buy an asset and put our logo somewhere?"
But "how do we actually add value to the fan's experience?"
That distinction is going to define the next era of soccer in America.
The players in this industry who understand it will build things that last.
The ones who don't will spend money and wonder why it didn't connect.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU
If it feels like you missed the moment, you didn't.
The World Cup opened a window that's still wide open, because the fans it created are all still here, looking for a reason to stay.
👉 This week, pay attention to how clubs, leagues, and brands are trying to hold onto their new fans. Notice who's adding real value and who's just showing up.
That's where the sport is heading.
And the window just opened.
