INTRODUCTION

Greetings, Pathwayers -

Big soccer news yesterday as the NWSL formally awarded the league’s 18th club to Columbus. The ownership group will be led by Haslam Sports Group who also own the Columbus Crew - and it’s being reported the expansion fee is $200+ million dollars.

It’s a stunning figure when you consider the expansion fee for Angel City was $2M just FIVE years ago. I’m not great at math, but that seems like a big jump.

And it serves as another data point that highlights the incredible growth of women’s soccer in America.

This graphic in particular caught my attention. 🤯

If you’re someone who wants to work in the soccer industry, it should serve as an encouragement - that type of growth will only mean more jobs and more opportunities in the coming years.

Color me excited for Columbus. The new team will begin play in 2028.

⚽️ CAREER TIP: THE 15 MINUTE HABIT THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR CAREER

If you’re trying to break into soccer (or grow within it), here’s a simple system that takes just 15 minutes a day. That’s it.

We’ve broken it down into three parts:

5 Minutes: Commenting

Go on LinkedIn and find relevant posts within the soccer industry.

Then engage… not with:

“Great post!”

But with:

  • A thoughtful takeaway

  • Your perspective

  • A relevant question

Why this works:

👉 People notice who consistently shows up
👉 You become visible without posting
👉 You start to build familiarity in the space

5 Minutes: Outreach

Every day, reach out to at least 1 person.

That’s it.

Someone who is:

  • Working in a role you’re interested in

  • At a club or company you admire

  • With a background similar to yours

Keep it simple:

  • 4–5 sentences

  • Personalized

  • Clear ask (15–20 min conversation)

Over time, this adds up quickly.

1 message a day = 30 conversations a month.

5 Minutes: Learning

Use the last 5 minutes to stay sharp.

This can be:

  • Reading industry news (start with our links below!)

  • Studying how clubs market themselves

  • Following trends across leagues

The goal:

👉 Start thinking like someone who works in soccer, not just someone who watches it

WHY THIS WORKS

Soccer is a small industry.

People remember:

  • Who shows up consistently

  • Who engages thoughtfully

  • Who takes initiative

Most people don’t do this.

They:

  • Wait until they “need” a job

  • Send a few messages

  • Then stop when they don’t hear back

That’s not how momentum is built.

⚽️ WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

You don’t need hours every day.

You don’t need the perfect plan.

You just need:

  • Consistency

  • Intentionality

  • A willingness to show up

15 minutes a day might not feel like much, but over weeks and months, it compounds into:

  • More conversations

  • More visibility

  • More opportunities

Start today.

Set a timer for 15 minutes.

And stack small wins.
